The New Uniform Premarital and Marital Agreements Act
Premarital and marital agreements are used to alter rights and obligations between spouses that arise under local law as a matter of marital status. In an effort to promote consistent treatment of these agreements among the states, the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws approved a new Uniform Premarital and Marital Agreements Act in 2012. It has been passed in Colorado and North Dakota and introduced in the District of Columbia and Nevada. The program will focus on the provisions of the Act as well as practical aspects of negotiating and drafting these types of agreements.
